Profit and Loss Account is the performance barometer of a company. It is part of the financial statements and summarizes the company’s total revenue and other incomes and total expenses that have been incurred in the reporting period. The resultant profit or loss is then carried forward to the accumulated retained earnings/ deficit over the years (which forms part of the Shareholders’ equity). The Profit and Loss Account provides an overview of the financial health of the business. Also the relevant tax authority of the country/ revenue department requires the Profit and Loss Account to assess the tax on the company’s profits. A Profit and Loss normally reflects the Company’s Revenues/ Sales, Cost of Goods Sold, Selling and Administrative Expenses, Finance Costs, Provision for Taxes and finally, Profits made after taxes. This webinar will walk you through the concept of a Profit and Loss of a company, how the expenses are accrued and recorded. We will cover the different heads of Profit and Loss Account, and also discuss the financial ratios that help in interpreting the Profit and Loss Account better. Such ratios include Gross Profit Margin Ratio, Net Profit Ratio, Stock Turnover Rate, Overhead Expenses Sales Ratio etc.
